Lilly Maree's Summer Drawing

Lilly Maree has made a nice summer drawing for us to enjoy, using the drawing pad app on the ipad.  Hooray for summer!!  She chose the border and stamps (balloons and bandaid) and drew the flowers.  She then saved it into iphoto's, all by herself.  Well done Lilly Maree!

Kelsey's Spinning Top

Kelsey is always busy at work creating wonderful things out of recycled materials.  Kelsey made a spinning top.  Way to go Kelsey! That's really using your imagination!

Romilly's House

Romilly drew another picture of her house.  She says this one is more realistic.  This time she emailed the picture to me all by herself.  Way to go Romilly!

Jaxon's Picture

Jaxon drew a picture of himself and his Dad on the Ipad.  He chose the background and drew each person carefully (choosing the colours and crayon feature).  He also emailed it to me all by himself.  Well done Jaxon!

Pet Day 2011

Today was Pet Day. Most of the students at Springston School brought in a pet. We had everything from lambs, calves and pigs to cats, dogs, and birds. We even had bears and frogs (but they were stuffed toys). Well done everyone for sharing information about your pets with the judges and your friends. It was a great day for all. Below are some pictures of the students from Room 8 with their pets.

Use your imagination

Right before the holidays we talked about using our imagination to create different things.  Here is the video we watched.
Just a quick reminder to everyone in Room 8 to use your fabulous and fantastic imaginations over the holidays.  When you get bored, just remember, everything and anything is possible when you use your imagination. So don't just sit there, imagine and create!!!
I hope you are having a great break :)

Facepainted

We were very lucky today!! We've been working really hard to fill our 'Jar of Marbles', by making good choices as a class.  As a reward for all our hard work Phoebe's mum, Alaina, came in to paint our faces.  Ollie chose a dinosaur.  Ella turned into a cat.  Alex was a tiger.  Robbie chose a dog.  Romilly was a sparkly cat.  Lilly Maree, Kiera and Caitlin chose pretty designs to wear.  Mackenzie turned into a witch. Rosie and Phoebe chose beautiful flower designs.
A big thank you to Alaina for painting our faces.  We loved it!!!  And a big pat on the back for filling up the jar, well done Room 8!

Jump Rope for Heart

Today we participated in Jump Rope for Heart.  We hopped, skipped, and jumped through many different and fun activities.  We especially liked Jump Jam (jumping to music), and wriggly snake.  We used hoops and ropes and jumped with partners, on our own and in groups.  Click on one of the pictures below and it will get bigger....maybe you will see someone you know.

Learning about volume

Yesterday we learned about volume.  We had 3 different boxes and we filled them up tightly with cubes.  Some of us thought the short fat box would hold the most, others thought the tall skinny box would hold the most.  We worked hard to fill the boxes and count the cubes.  In the end the tall skinny box held the most cubes (251 cubes).

Word Search

Today we learned how to complete a word search.  Phoebe said she sometimes does them in her Barbie book but today was the first time she was able to complete a whole word search on her own.  She was so proud of herself. Great work Phoebe!!

Imaginings from the Create Table

In Room 8 we like to use our imagination.  One of our favourite Literacy Centres is the 'Create Table'.  Robbie used his time at the Create Table to make an aeroplane.  Can you see all the different parts?
Oh, and if you're wondering where the propellers are you might be looking for a long time.  I was told that this is a jet engine plane, not a propeller plane....silly me! Well done Robbie for working so hard on this project.

Cricket Skills

On Friday a group from the Canterbury Cricket Association came to our school to teach us some cricket skills. We learned how to hit the ball with the bat and how to catch the ball properly. We had a lot of fun!!

Our Reading Buddies

Every Thursday our reading buddies come, from Room 7, to spend some time with us. We usually read but sometimes we play maths games or do other different fun activities. We're learning about different people who help us at school and our reading buddies help us with many different things. Room 8 would like to thank all our buddies for their help. THANKS BUDDIES, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
